A Decade of Evergen: Early Work in Home Energy Systems

Over a decade ago, when residential battery storage was still emerging, Design Anthology worked with CSIRO researchers and industry partners to develop the Evergen home energy platform.

At the time, the idea of home battery systems was still largely experimental. The brief was to translate emerging battery technology into a practical product platform that could be safely manufactured, deployed and scaled as the technology evolved.

Working closely with research and industry collaborators, the project focused on developing the early product architecture – including battery chemistry selection, modular system design and the development of a working prototype capable of demonstrating real-world viability.

Beyond the hardware itself, the work also included developing cost modelling and a manufacturing strategy to support the commercial pathway for the platform. These elements helped demonstrate the feasibility of the concept and supported the team in raising $15 million in seed investment from AMP Capital.

As part of the broader system concept, Design Anthology also developed an early concept for the indoor battery controller – an interface designed to help integrate and manage the home energy system.

Looking back a decade later, it’s a reminder of the role strong product development can play in bridging the gap between emerging technology and real-world impact.
